The role itself?
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the successful person will need to:
Ensure the quantity and quality of commercial, parent and experimental seed is produced within specified time frames and budgetary guidelines
Proactively identify and negotiate agreements with farmers who have suitable agronomic skills, land and machinery available to produce seed on our behalf
Work closely with our growers to coordinate the delivery of seed inputs and supervise planting to ensure appropriate planting splits and other agronomic milestones are achieved
Work closely with casual labour to ensure a high standard of hybrid seed purity, agronomy and crop hygiene is maintained from planting to harvest and onward to seed delivery
Engage with and report back to the senior agronomist on estimated yields, quality and harvest dates
Ensure adherence and compliance with all current policies and procedures at all times
Have the ability to operate all company equipment and assets accurately and safely
What kind of person will fit the role?
The successful person will have:
Tertiary education in agricultural science and past experience in the Australian agricultural industry
At least 2 years experience in a broadacre cropping agronomy, research or extension position
Current driver’s license including MR or HR license
Commercial Spray Operators License; Chemcert accreditation
Strong accuracy, attention to detail and analytical skills
A confident, calculated professional attitude with an innate ability to self-reflect and assess
