The role itself?
The role works closely with senior management to ensure ongoing business improvement. Time is split amongst supporting the sales and commercial team, agronomists, production/farm managers, across the industry. You will create opportunities to strengthen their understanding of plant physiology and soil and plant nutrition. The Technical Manager is expected to bring a strategic leadership perspective to the team and to lead with integrity and humility.
This position requires excellent communication skills and the successful candidate must be able to present technical concepts to audiences with a diverse range of agronomic knowledge.
Your day to day activities in this role will include:
Provide education, mentoring opportunities, innovation, quality and excellence.
Educate our stakeholders around plant physiology
Manage projects aligned with the business plans and strategies
Guide the team through development, testing & implementation stages, and review the work effectively.
Influence by providing technical training to internal and external stakeholders. Including our Business partners and Grower Groups.
Project scheduling, resource management and oversee the distribution of work to team and the subsequent performance evaluation of team.
Ability to make decisions and solve technical problems to provide efficient environment for project implementation.
Planning, budgeting and reporting on project results.
Take strategic ownership of a regional agronomy program with input from sales, marketing and other related capabilities.
Educate the Technical and Sales teams and the sales & agronomy teams of our customers, to position the product offerings with a competitive agronomic advantage in the market.
Develop relationships with customer sales and agronomy personnel, farmer/managers, researchers, independent consultants and industry bodies, with emphasis on strategic collaboration.
Manage Australian portfolio of field research projects to help evaluate current and emerging products, with emphasis on highly collaborative research relationships, forward-focused technological innovation, advanced data analysis, and marketing claims development.
Engage with the Innovation and Research & Development Teams (locally and globally) to provide strategic thought leadership in the agronomic sector to evaluating new business opportunities and aligning the agronomic research program to long-term business need.
What kind of person will fit the role?
Advanced knowledge of crop nutrition, plant physiology, soil health and fertiliser products.
Excellent communication skills and the successful candidate must be able to present technical concepts to audiences with a diverse range of agronomic knowledge.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal communications and ability to manage customer relationships.
Experience with leading a team of technical officers
Experience presenting technical information to diverse audiences.
Experience designing and conducting research trials, analysing data, and summarizing results.
Specialized knowledge in a complementary aspect of agronomy, such as micronutrients, EEFs, vegetable production, crop protection chemicals, biologicals, seed, precision ag, or cropping system sustainability.
Attention to detail and ability to prioritize based on value creation potential.
Experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint) and statistical software
Bachelor of Agricultural science or equivalent as a minimum, preferably Masters or PhD degrees
Agsafe/Fertcare certification is desirable
Drivers licence
Ability to travel locally, interstate and internationally
