Manage all aspects of summer and winter dryland/irrigated cropping and crop production. An exciting opportunity for a person experienced in broadacre farming, who has a genuine passion for farming and a knack for managing teams of people.

The role itself?
Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful person will need to:

  • Maximise crop health and performance in balance with ensuring optimal the farm operations, management on a daily, weekly and annual basis

  • Provide attention to seasonal chemical, fertiliser stock levels, implement and machinery spares to ensure full availability of the machinery and plant equipment

  • Ensure yield targets are achieved and take the necessary steps in a timely manner to avoid problems and keep the farm operating in an optimal level to meet production requirements

  • Ensure timely organisation and implementation of the servicing, repair and maintenance of the plant equipment with priority to ensure a high availability and reliability in conjunction with the farm management

  • Contribute to the setting of farm policies, including the development programme, projected chemical, fertiliser stock levels to meet crop performance targets and understanding the annual budget requirements in conjunction with management

  • Engage in record keeping including machinery performance, diagnostics, on farm fuel usage (monthly stock reconciliation), rainfall, soil temperature, week and pest monitoring, hours kept by casual staff, vehicle maintenance and a full and comprehensive diary

  • Attend and provide leadership at any off-farm field days, discussions groups or further education as required for either personal or professional development as agreed on by management

  • Promote and manage a team of farm employees in compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, legislation and regulations

What kind of person will fit the role?
The successful person will need to have:

  • Extensive experience in broadacre production systems and more than 3 years experience managing a team of production specialists

  • Tertiary qualifications in agricultural science, business management or equivalent

  • Brilliant communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to build relationships at all levels of the organisation

  • Extensive operational skills, including the set-up, calibration and scheduling of planters, cultivation equipment, spray rigs and general farm machinery

  • High level of computer and technological literacy
